Tackling digital exclusion shoot

01 — Background

Virgin Media O2 Business is a champion of digital inclusion in the UK. Employees are encouraged to use their 'Take 5' volunteering days to donate their time and skills to help tackle the UK's growing digital divide.

This takes the form of Virgin Media O2 Business' 'Connect More programme', which involves employee volunteers going out into local communities to take part in digital workshops in partnership with several local governments.

The client wanted to increase awareness of the Connect More programme among its employees and local authorities around the UK.

02 — My role in this project

Raising awareness means you need a story to tell.

We advised Virgin Media O2 Business to film one of the digital inclusion workshops, capturing content across interview footage with volunteers & participants, and B-roll shots of the day in action.

My role in the build-up was to write the interview questions and help organise the shoot. On the day, I helped with interviews and then worked closely with our editing team on the final products.

We created an internal and external facing video before editing these down into several shorter cuts for Virgin Media O2 Business' LinkedIn and Twitter channels. The final extended video is up top - featuring some truly heartwarming examples of how the sessions have transformed lives.

As an added bonus, the videos broke Virgin Media O2 Business' view and engagement records on its social media channels.
