Scriptwriting for a TV legend

01 — Background

Every year O2 hosts a company-wide event for its employees to let them blow off some steam and enjoy themselves. In 2020, this took the form of a Britain's Got Talent style competition, with O2 staff showing off their singing, magic skills, dancing and more.

We were approached by O2 to write the script for the evening's host - Big Brother and X Factor's very own Rylan Clark-Neal.

02 — My role in this project

I was tasked with writing the script - so I immediately went straight to YouTube to immerse myself in Rylan's irreverent presenting style. Scriptwriting for a set individual needs to be a tailored process - capturing speaking style, humour, timing and more.

The script also included an 'Ant and Dec' style presenting duo who were working alongside Rylan on the day. Clocking in at around 45 minutes worth of script (the designated runtime) I penned one-liners, included stage direction, and even time stamped the entire script.

It went down a hit - with Rylan engaging with his fans on social media in the aftermath of another successful perfomance below, and a very happy client indeed.
